Abstract

Music is considered to have a contribution in understanding the individual’s personality (Cattel dan Anderson, 1953; Dillman, Knobloch, dan Zillmann, 2003; Litle dan Zuckerman, 1986; Renfrow, Goldberg dan Levitin, 2011). Therefore this research aimed to examine the correlation between the heavy metal music with the personality in early adulthood. McCrae dan Costa (1999) explained about the big five factor personality types or OCEAN which is consisted of Openness, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness and Neuroticism. This research carried out on 301 subject. The result of the correlation indicates that heavy metal music has a positive correlation and significant with Extraversion and Openness to Experience. And also has negative correlation and significant with neuroticism.
