Abstract

The work of nurse anesthetists in the operating room demands high precision and continuous vigilance, especially when facing workloads that exceed individual capacity. This study aims to explore the experiences of nurse anesthetists in maintaining patient safety under high workload conditions. The study was
conducted at Hospital X in Jakarta during January–February 2024 and involved 10 nurse anesthetists as participants. A descriptive qualitative design with a phenomenological approach was employed, using in-depth semi-structured interviews for data collection. Thematic analysis was applied based on Braun and
Clarke’s methodology.
The findings identified five main themes: high workload, impact on self and patient, coping strategies, experiences in emergency situations, and expectations for hospital support. Participants reported physical fatigue, mental stress, and decreased concentration as the primary effects. Coping strategies included time management, relaxation, and effective team communication to maintain patient safety. This study provides a basis for policy interventions to improve nurse anesthetists’ well-being and ensure patient safety
