Abstract

Entering the final semester of higher education is a crucial phase for students as they complete their theses and prepare to enter the workforce. In the context of Industry 4.0, the increasing dependence on digital technology makes job searching more complex, often triggering anxiety in students. Anxiety is a feeling that arises from worries and fears about facing future situations without clear reasons. This is due to final semester students having to prepare themselves to successfully enter the workforce. Social support, which includes informational, emotional, and instrumental assistance, as well as self-efficacy, defined as the belief in one’s ability to achieve goals, is a key factor in reducing anxiety. This study aims to scientifically examine the role of social support and self-efficacy in work-related anxiety among students writing theses. The hypothesis of this research is that there is a role of social support and self-efficacy in work-related anxiety. The sample for this study consists of 200 students currently working on their theses. Data were collected using a Likert scale. The instruments used to measure the research variables include the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support developed by Gregory D. Zimet, the Generalized Self-Efficacy Scale developed by Matthias Jerusalem and Ralf Schwarzer, and a scale of anxiety in facing the workforce developed by Dennis Greenberger and Christine A. Padesky and further developed by Thomas Fajar Adi Nugroho, with each instrument having 7 and 4 alternative responses. The data were analyzed using multiple regression analysis. The results indicate a positive role of social support and self-efficacy in work- related anxiety among students working on their theses, with r = 0.413 and significance 0.001. In this study, self-efficacy plays a more significant role than social support.
