Abstract
Tiktok addiction has become an increasingly common phenomenon among emerging adulthood, characterized by excessive use and negative impacts on mental health, productivity, and social relationships. This study aims to examine the correlation between self-control and Tiktok addiction in individuals aged 18-25 years, classified as emerging adulthood. The research employed a quantitative method with purposive sampling technique. Data were collected from 200 participants residing in the Jabodetabek area through online questionnaires, using the Brief Self-Control Scale (BSCS) to measure self-control and the adapted Bergen Social Media Addiction Scale (BSMAS) to assess Tiktok addiction. The results of the analysis showed a significant negative correlation between self- control and Tiktok addiction (r = −0.806; p < 0.05), meaning that higher levels of self-control are associated with lower tendencies of Tiktok addiction. The dimensions of inhibition and initiation in self-control each significantly contributed to the reduction of Tiktok addiction, with correlation values of r = −0.793 and r = −0.761, respectively. This study emphasizes the importance of self-control in reducing the risk of social media addiction, especially Tiktok, in emerging adulthood.
