Abstract

Profitability and bank risk are considered as the most important measurement to determine the performance of a bank. These two measurements provide an idea of whether a bank is a worthwhile investment or not. To date banking industry largest income is interest income from lending activity but with Covid-19 pandemic that happened in late 2019 has plunged the world into an economic crisis which makes lending activity for banking insustry harder to do. Because of the highly increasing ratio on bad loan banking industry is forced to diversivy their income to a more fee
based model. Fee based income model for banking industry is considered to be more volatile than interest based income because of its uncertainty. This research aims to investigate the influence of income diversification on profitability and bank risk on
Indonesian conventional commercial banking industry in Covid-19 Pandemic. Thepopulation in this research comprises all conventional commercial banking companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) from 2020 to 2022. The selected sample for this study consists of 42 companies. The data analysis method used is panel data regression analysis using Eviews 12. The results indicate that income diversification has a positive impact on Profitability measured using Return on Assets (ROA) and Return on Equity (ROE). On the other hand, income diversification has a negative impact on Risk measured using the Standard Deviation of Return on Assets (SDROA) and Standard Deviation of Return on Equity (SDROE)
