Abstract

This research responds to the phenomenon of significant investor growth in the Indonesian stock market in the period 2020 to January 2023. The increasing number of investors, understanding the personality/attitude of an individual investor, and the tendency to be biased in overconfident behavior can minimize errors in investment decision making, as well as increase opportunities and obtaining optimal profits. By referring to The Big Five Personalities, personality traits are focused on 4 out of 5 personality traits in relation to the overconfidence behavioral bias of an individual investor. Data collection in this research used a questionnaire in the form of a google-form which was distributed via communication
media (Facebook, LinkedIn, WhatsApp) to stock investors officially registered with KSEI. And 483 results were obtained which were declared valid and appropriate from the 533 questionnaires that were collected. Data processing and hypothesis validation used the SmartPLS 4 application. The results of this study found that the personality factors: neuroticism, conscientiousness had a significant positive effect on overconfidence bias, while openness showed the opposite effect, both for male and female investors.
