This literature review examines how anatomical and hormonal shifts during pregnancy impact a woman’s postural stability and gait. As fetal weight increases, the center of mass moves forward, leading to compensatory changes like increased spinal curvature and knee hyperextension that often result in musculoskeletal pain. These biomechanical alterations, combined with ligamentous laxity caused by hormones like relaxin and estrogen, significantly elevate the risk of falls. The research highlights that pregnant women often adopt a wider stance and slower walking speed to maintain balance. To mitigate these issues, the text suggests targeted interventions such as proprioceptive training, stabilization exercises, and the use of supportive maternity belts or elastic taping. Ultimately, the source serves as a comprehensive guide for improving maternal health and safety through a deeper understanding of pregnancy-related biomechanics.
