Abstract

This research aims to obtain an overview of the psychological well-being of involuntary childless couples in terms of 6 dimensions of psychological well-being, which include self-acceptance, personal growth, purpose in life, environmental mastery, autonomy, and positive relations with others. This study employs a qualitative research method. Data collection techniques were carried out through in-depth interviews. The participant criteria consisted of (a) married couples who did not have children, (b) experiencing primary infertility, (c) marriage age 1-5 years, and (d) young adults aged 20-30 years. The results of the research reveal that, (1) infertility affects the quality of the subject's psychological well-being, (2) self-acceptance is the dimension that is most difficult for the subject to fulfill, (3) the goal of marriage is no longer just about having children, but also the harmony of the marital relationship ( 4) subjects tend to be able to choose appropriate environments, (5) personal growth increases along with self-acceptance. The conclusions in the research revealed that the four research subjects did not fully fulfill the 6 dimensions contained in the theory of psychological well-being.
