Abstract

Child molestation (abbreviated as CM) is a form of sexual violence which is a forced sexual contact (that includes caressing, stimulating child’s genital area, forcefully manipulating child to stimulate one’s sexual organ, oral, anal, and also vaginal rape) toward children. CM use to be conducted by child’s significant others such as friends or family members, therefore it could be happening for years. Some of CM long-term psychological effects are influenced by victim’s disturbed self-esteem as a beginning and continuation effect of CM. Self-esteem is a realistic and appreciative perception which is made by person toward his/herself based on society and family values. The purpose of this research is to unveil more of the self-esteem image of CM victim (female teenager). This research has been conducted toward two (female teenager) CM victims in Jakarta. This research uses theory of adolescence, self-esteem, child molestation, and significant others. Data collection uses in-depth interview January-March 2009. The result of the analysis shows that: (1) there has been a major incline of victim’s self-esteem when they are fully supported by their families and by getting good achievement; (2) at one of the subject, it has been detected that the subject was experiencing nightmare three months after she was free from traumatic period until one year later.
