Abstract

Adolescents, that experience parents divorcement, are prone to withdraw themselves from society and have negative feelings as to having high fear to embark in any relationship with others. As an individu, get involved in good relationship towards others in society is a task for every adolescent. Hence, self-disclosure ability is required at this extent. Self-disclosure is revealing intimate information or feelings about oneself with another person (Taylor, Peplau, & Sears, 2006). Female has better self-disclosure ability than male. The research objective is to obtain an overview of female adolescents to undergo self-disclosure caused by parents divorcement. This research is using qualitative method with a chosen sample technique of criterion sampling. Criteria of subjects are female adolescent 11 to 24 years old, divorced parents not exceeding 15 years and has done a self-disclosure at least once. Collection of data was started in December 2013 up to April 2014. However, result has shown that the 5 adolescents have undertaken self-disclosure because of parents divorcement in a descriptive yet evaluative way in which occured because of some factors. Divorced parents status, reason, state of affairs and feelings associated with the divorce are information which have been disclosed to close friends which are trustworthy. The dominant self-disclosure goal for the 5 adolescents are relationship development and self expression. Eventually, the 5 adolescents would not feel the downside effect when performing self-disclosure, because adult dissolution is a fact.
