Abstract
Goal of this research to know the factors of adjustment, and adjustment made to the role of young girls as housemaid. Housemaid is a job in the domestic sector to help the working household. Adjustment is the process to overcome the demand from the environment. Theory used is according to Powell (1983) about the factors that influence the adjustment such as good relationship with family, physical condition, ability to understand a directive from employer, pleasure activity, religion, and revenue obtained. Haber and Runyon (1984) about the characteristics of self-adjustment such as accurate perception of reality, ability to cope with stres and anxiety, positive self image, ability to express feelings, and good interpersonal relations. The subject of this research is 5 young girls aged 10-20 years who worked as housemaid at least 5 months to 2 years. Collecting data using in-depth interviews and observations that took place in March to April. Results from this research show that four of five subject can adjustment meanwhile one subject can not adjustment with the role as a housemaid.
