Abstract

"The aim of this research is to examine the correlation between emotional intelligence, juvenile delinquency, and achievement in middle adolescents of high school in Jakarta. Emotional intelligence is the ability and skills related to development of social relations with environment refers to the ability to recognize their own feelings and others, the ability to motivate oneself, and the ability to manage emotions well, and in relationships with others. Juvenile delinquency is common delinquency in adolescents and violating norms. Achievement is the result and done by someone. This study had 351 subject in high school in Jakarta. The result has showed that emotional intelligence has negative and significant correlation with juvenile delinquency with r = - 0,247 and p = 0,000. Juvenile delinquency and achievement has negative and significant correlation with r = - 0,210 and p = 0,000. Emotional intelligence has no correlation with achievement with r = 0,079 and p = 0,319. The conclusion of this research is the higher emotional intelligence is lower juvenile delinquency and lower juvenile delinquency is higher achievement. But the higher emotional intelligence is not necessarily higher achievement."
