Abstract

The aims of this study is to look at the phenomenon of dropout experiences and the meaning contained in the experiences. The dropout effect on the self-concept is also viewed from the standpoint of the individual experience. This study is using qualitative method with the transendetal phenomenological approach by doing interviews from August 2011 to March 2012. The research was conducted on six adults with the age range of 35 - 45 years old who have experienced dropout cases. The findings of the research produced six theme clusters resulting from the phenomenon of dropout experiences. They are Life Challenges, Dropout Causes, Dropout Label, Missed Time, Decision-making (moving on), and Dropout Value as learning. The essence of this research is to see the changing process of the subject's self-concept, ie through self awareness, self acceptance and moving on. Positive self-concept is generated through a process of self awareness, self acceptance and decision making. Three of the six subjects had positive self-concept of the dropout label and three others had negative selfconcept.
