Abstract
Characteristics successful marriages has twelve characteristics. Stages of marriage has eight stages. Characteristics successful marriage that appears in every stages is different one another. This research intends to recognize characteristics successful of marriage from each stage of marriage. The subjects in this research are men and women who has married and not in a divorced situation. The data is taken from 383 people, and processed by using SPSS for windows 12.0 version. At first, second, and eighth stage of marriage, the highest characteristic are empathy and sensitivity. At third and fifth stage of marriage, the highest characteristic is commitment. At fourth and sixth stage of marriage, the highest characteristic are honesty, fidelity, and trust. At seventh stage of marriage, the highest characteristic is responsibility.
