Abstract

Reading interest in Indonesia today can be regarded as a low interest in reading when compared with other Asian countries such as Japan, and countries in the west. This can happen occur due to culture of Indonesia do not get people to read books every day. In the process of reading, a person also requires an ability to understand the literature they read in order to obtain useful information for themselves or others. In this case, a student is required to get a good grade point average, for the fulfillment of academic requirements and requirements to enter the world of work. Thus, to achieve good performance, it takes an interest in reading and understanding of the reading is read. In this study, subjects who are involved amounted to 170 persons, and five of them were disqualified because they do not qualify. The results of the correlation between reading interest with academic achievement has a value of r = 0.05, p> 0.05, and it means there is no relationship between reading interest with academic achievement. The results of the correlation between reading comprehension with academic achievement has a value of r = 0.19, p <0.05, and it means there is a relationship between reading comprehension with academic achievement.
