Abstract

Aggression is an attitude of wanting to hurt others, physically or psychologically to express negative feelings. Aggressive behavior in Sabhara police tend to occur because of the ownership group to form a social identity. The purpose of this research is to examine the corelation between social identity and the intention of aggression by Sabhara police officers. This research uses quantitative research method with Pearson correlation and simple regression techniques. Population of 560, in this study participants 110 in the Police Provincial police Sabhara X with characteristic (a) have commit violence in the last 1 month at least 1-3 times, and (b) male gender. The selection of the sample using simple random sampling technique. Measuring instrument of aggression in this study was adapted from Buss and Perry, while social identity adapted from Cameron. According to the analysis which is done by using correlation examination, the results are r = .398 and p = .000 < 0.01 which mean there are the higher the social identity as a member of the higher Sabhara aggressive behavior. Police Sabhara who feel attachment and a high sense of belonging and a feeling to keep the group called strong corps spirit then have a tendency to do a higher aggression. The role of social identity is as much as 15.8 percent towards intention of aggression by Sabhara police.
