Abstract

This study want to find out the correlation between self-efficacy with foreign language anxiety in junior high school students (in a junior high school of Buddhist X in West Jakarta). Self-efficacy is an individual's belief in doing the task on the situation at hand. Foreign language anxiety is anxiety and worry that appear related to the use of foreign languages that occured during the learning process in the classroom. Psychological assessment on the variable of Foreign language anxiety is an adaptation of the Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale (FLCAS) developed by Horwitz, Horwitz, and Cope (1986), while assessment on self-efficacy variable is the adaptation of the General Self-Efficacy Scale developed by Schawarzer and Jerusalem (1995). This study was conducted on 107 junior high school students of Buddhist X in West Jakarta. Correlational research methods with data collection techniques of simple random sampling. Results of correlation test found that there was no significant relationship between self-efficacy with foreign language anxiety (r = -0.135 and p = 0.166> 0.05). However, one dimension of foreign language anxiety, that is test anxiety is negatively correlated with self-efficacy (r = -0.183 and p = 0.028 <0.05). This suggests that when high test anxiety subjects would be self-efficacy decline, but on the contrary if a low test anxiety subjects so that self-efficacy would be increase.
