Abstract

Conformity is a high sense of community to a friend or group in decision making. Besides conformity, the tendency to abuse drugs also can be caused by sensation seeking. Sensation seeking is the tendency of individuals to seek diversity on something new. Based on these assumptions, the research conducted a study that aimed to verify correlation between conformity and sensation seeking on male college students with abusing drugs and non abusing drugs. The study involved 160 participants, who were divided into two groups, which are abusing and non abusing. The criteria subject were male college students, who are actively enrolled, aged between 18-20 years. Using quantitative methods, with snowball so the process of data collection can be more suitable to measured. The data collection began on Oct 22th-Nov 2nd 2012, which is housed in one of the university in West Jakarta. The results of this study indicate that there is a positive and significant correlation between conformity and sensation seeking (r = 0,318, p = 0,004 < 0,01) on male college students with abusing drugs, otherwise on male college students with non abusing drugs (r = -0,113, p = 0,238> 0,05) are negative and insignificant correlation between conformity and sensation seeking.
