Abstract
Gay is a sexual orientation which the person has interest towards the same sex. Parenting is an interaction between child and parents by which the parents are educating, guiding, disciplining and protecting their child. Perceptions of parenting is a way of an individual intepret the attitude given by parents in the process of care they provided. Parenting became one of the factor that influenced a person’s sexual orientation. This research aims to see the forming of gay sexual orientation in early adulthood based on parenting. This research involves 4 men between the age of 18 - 20 who has a gay sexual orientation. This research was made using a qualitative method and snowball sampling as the sampling techniques. The study lasted for 4 months from January to May. The results of this study shows four subjects has a different perception of parenting, two subjects has an authoritarian father, one subject has an indulgent father, and one subject has an authoritative father. Three subjects has an authoritative mother, while one subject has an authoritarian mother. Four subjects met five levels out of six levels of Cass Identity Model (1979) which consists of identity confusion, identity comparison, identity tolerance, identity acceptance, and identity pride. Four subjects doesn’t met the sixth stage because their inability to accept the negative view from their surrounding environment.
