Abstract

From observations of everyday life can still be found in Glodok Chinatown region, merchants who offer a variety of needs to be traded, with a spread along the front hall shop that is commonly used as the circulation of pedestrians. The use of space as a means of shopping is exciting because it seemed to be characteristic of the region, namely region Pancoran Glodok. Shopping arcade terms that can explain the phenomenon that occurs in the region Pancoran Glodok. Its existence became the starting point of research, because based on the history of Chinatown also become targets of mass amok on the riots in May 1998. Still in the memory of urban (read: city) burning incident, destruction, looting is going on there. But the region remains as the economic center until now. How the situation that characterizes the development of the region from time to time become the outputs to be achieved in this study. In efforts to see the development of existing urban memory become the focus, so that later studies using intrepretif-historical method in exploring narrative attached to the region.
