Abstract
Along with the changes of economy and globalization, is the changes of buying behavior in society. Sometimes a person buys something not according to his/her needs anymore. This kind of buying behavior is only for pleasure, and causes someone to become a wasteful person, This is what we called consumptive behavior, This kind of behavior can always happen to anybody, including female teenagers. This research focused on the consumptive behavior that occurred in female teenagers. There are many factors that can cause someone to be consumptive. This research focused on two main factors which are conformity and self concept. So the purpose of this research is to know how important the influence of conformity and self concept towards consumptive behavior of female teenagers. Conformity is to surrender to peer pressure even though there are no direct demands to follow all things done by these peers. Self concept in this research refers to the unique composition of perception, judgement, attitude, ways of thinking and individuals concience. The number of subjects in this research were 79. All of them study at Tarakanita High School I, South Jakarta. They filled the questionnaires which function as the barometer of this research. All the answers for the statements in this questionnaires were in the form of continuum scale (Strongly Agree, Agree, Abstain, Disagree, Strongly Disagree). The data processing in this research was using the SPSS computer program for windows release 10,0. The data calculation was done by the Pearson correlation tehnique and Multiple linear regression. By using the Pearson correlation tehnique, the correlation between conformity and consumptive behavior was confirmed positive. Whereas there is no correlation between self concept and consumptive behavior. In order to find the influence of conformity and self concept the Multiple linear regression analysis method was used. The result was both of conformity and self concept together have an effect on the consumptive behavior. However in this research there is a correlation between conformity and self concept. Because of that, when self concept was merged with conformity, it effected the consumptive behavior, Conformity contributed the effect to self concept and effected the consumptive behavior. In conclusion, conformity has a significant role in consumptive behavior in teenagers. This way strongly supported by a theory that stated female teenagers have a stronger conform behavior compare to male teenagers.
