Abstract

The aim of this research is to determine how workplace violence was experienced by nurses can serve as a predictor of burnout. The participants in this study consisted of 88 nurses from the Psychiatric Hospital X in Jakarta using purposive sampling technique. These results indicate that workplace violence and burnout experienced by nurses is likely to be high. Based on regression analysis of workplace violence were able to significantly predict burnout experienced by nurses. Results of this study also found that when analyzed more in depth per variable dimensions, physical attack can serve as a predictor of the occurrence of exhaustion, cynicism, and ineffectiveness than other dimensions such as threat and vicarious experience of violence.
